- SpaceXAI's Grok Bot turns agents into persistent digital coworkers that can operate your apps for $120-per-month
SpaceXAI, the division of SpaceX f ormerly known as xAI , is launching an early beta version of Grok Bot , a new agent designed to move AI assistants beyond answering prompts and toward continuously executing work across the software employees already use. The central idea is straightforward: instead of opening an AI assistant whenever a task arises, users create persistent Bots with specific jobs, give them access to applications and websites, and delegate work much as they would to a teammate. Each Bot operates through its own computer environment, can continue working when the user's laptop is closed, and can return when it needs approval or has finished the assignment. SpaceXAI says the system began as an internal prototype before spreading across the company, where teams created Bots for sales outbound, marketing campaigns, office operations, bug fixes and other work. The company is now turning that internally developed workflow into a product for external users. “Bots are AI teammates that do real work for you,” the company said in announcing the product. “They sign in to your tools, use them just like you do, and come back with finished work.” The company did not release benchmarks for Grok Bot's performance on agentic tasks. And it arrives amid an increasingly crowded marketplace of first-party AI agents that attempt to reliably complete real, enterprise workflows by interfacing with a user's other applications and devices. Anthropic introduced computer use for Claude in 2024 , allowing models to inspect screens and operate interfaces through mouse and keyboard actions, and continued expanding with the launch of the developer focused Claude Code harness in early 2025 and the more non-technical, white collar focused Claude Cowork agent early this year. Meanwhile, OpenAI gave its Codex harness the ability to control other computer apps in April, launched agentic Workspace Agents that can also connect to third-party applications and use them autonomously, and recently debuted a new ChatGPT Work environment for longer, multi-step tasks and finished deliverables. Grok Bot seeks to join the party with its own management model for agents: persistent workers with responsibilities, memory, learned routines and the ability to hand work to one another. Pricing and availability: Grok Bot starts at $120 per seat per month for teams, $200 per month for individuals Grok Bot is available beginning today, August 11 in beta for SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra and Cursor Premium Teams subscribers (recall SpaceX acquired Cursor for $60 billion back in June ). The product arrives for macOS, Windows, Linux and iOS, with Android listed as coming soon. According to its product page on xAI.com , Grok Bot is included with Cursor Ultra at $200 per month for individuals. The plan includes a computer for Grok Bot, access to users' tools, scheduled routines, desktop and mobile operation, and extended AI-token limits. For organizations, Cursor Premium Teams costs $120 per seat per month and adds centralized billing and settings, a team marketplace for skills and plugins, shared usage analytics and SAML/OIDC single sign-on. Existing SuperGrok Heavy ($300 per month) subscribers also receive access. However, for organizations wishing to sign up today, SpaceXAI is directing them to a waitlist for future access . Those prices make Grok Bot a substantially different purchasing decision from a low-cost general AI subscription. The economic question for companies will be whether persistent Bots can replace enough manual work or conventional automation infrastructure to justify the per-user cost — and how usage limits affect total cost once agents begin running continuously. From prompting an AI to managing one SpaceXAI describes Grok Bot as a team of “always-on agents.” Users can create multiple Bots, assign each a role and let them work simultaneously. The company provides examples including Sales Outbound, Talent Scout, Paid Media, Expense Manager, Product Performance, Bug Reproduction, Account Health and Chief of Staff. A sales Bot, for example, can research accounts, score prospective contacts, prepare email and LinkedIn outreach in the user's voice, and assemble the results for human approval. Promotional materials show SpaceXAI using the system internally for substantially longer chains of work. One sales Bot can add call-transcript notes to a CRM and draft follow-up messages. An operations Bot can seat new hires and process invoices arriving through Gmail. An engineering Bot can reproduce a bug in the product interface, file a ticket and then hand the repair to a debugging Bot. The architecture could make Grok Bot particularly relevant for workflows that span systems that were never designed for AI automation. Rather than requiring every application to expose an API specifically for an agent, Grok Bot can sign into applications and websites and operate their interfaces. SpaceXAI says Bots have their own computers and can continue working 24/7. The company explicitly says this includes websites and applications that have “no clean API or MCP,” an important distinction for enterprises with legacy software, fragmented SaaS environments or internal systems that have never been instrumented for agent access. Instead of limiting automation to formally integrated services, Grok Bot is designed to work through the same software interfaces a human employee would use. The company says early users are already applying Bots to jobs including vendor negotiations, e-commerce customer support and continuously updating CRM systems. Another feature attempts to reduce the engineering required to automate repeatable business processes. Users can demonstrate a workflow while a Bot follows along. Grok Bot can then save the process as a routine and execute it later without requiring the user to reproduce every instruction. SpaceXAI says the Bot can also incorporate corrections into those learned routines, allowing the workflow to change as the user teaches it how a particular process should be handled. That potentially changes the deployment model from explicitly programming an automation to teaching an agent how an employee performs the job. The company is also claiming a more persistent form of behavioral memory than simply retaining a chat transcript. According to the launch announcement, Bots remember prior conversations, learn preferences such as a user's writing voice and edge cases, and gradually learn when they should interrupt for approval versus continue independently. SpaceXAI says they can later resume dropped threads, nudge stalled handoffs and pick up work from earlier conversations. It further says Bots can become proactive over time, sometimes identifying work before the user explicitly asks for it. That is a more ambitious claim than conventional scheduled automation and will put additional pressure on permission controls and escalation rules if the system is deployed against production applications. Bots can delegate work to other Bots Grok Bot also supports multiple agents operating together. Users can place several Bots into the same thread, where the agents can pass work between one another. The company's demonstration includes specialized Research, Communications, Chief of Staff and Travel Bots coordinating tasks. SpaceXAI says those Bots can independently message one another and share context within threads. Users can also put multiple Bots into a group conversation where they assign ownership, transfer work and coordinate among themselves, bringing the human back in primarily for judgment calls. Internally, the company says employees sometimes place a Chief of Staff Bot above specialist Bots responsible for functions such as inbox management, recruiting, expenses, operations and bug fixes. That makes the product's orchestration model more explicit: the user does not necessarily have to serve as the routing layer between every specialized agent. Initial reactions are extremely positive Lenny Rachitsky , host of the popular vlog and podcast Lenny's Podcast and author of newsletter Lenny Letter, received early access to Grok Bot and loved using it. As Rachitsy wrote on X : "I haven't been this excited about a new AI product in a while. It's like OpenClaw, but super easy, reliable, and less scary to use. I think this will be a huge new product line for Cursor/Grok/SpaceX." Similarly Matt Shumer, an AI entrepreneur who said he tested Grok Bot for several weeks before launch, highlighted this orchestration as one of the product's strongest features. “The best way I can describe it is an agent for everything, not just code,” Shumer wrote on X. In one test, Shumer said he created separate researcher and writer Bots, then created a Chief of Staff Bot and instructed it to coordinate the other two on a project. He expected the workflow to break down. “It worked out of the box,” he wrote. His main criticism involved model selection. Unlike systems where developers or advanced users explicitly select the underlying model, Shumer said Grok Bot automatically routes tasks to models on the backend. “You don’t choose a model for your Grok Bot,” he wrote. “It’s all done automatically on the backend.” Shumer said the model router “wasn’t great” during his testing, although he said he was subsequently told it had improved. SpaceXAI's expanded announcement still does not identify which underlying models the router uses, nor does it document a mechanism for users to select, pin or switch to a particular xAI or third-party model. As a result, the model layer remains largely abstracted from users in the publicly supplied launch material. That abstraction represents an important tradeoff for enterprise deployments. Automatic routing can remove a significant configuration decision for ordinary employees, but advanced users may want explicit control over model cost, latency, reliability and behavior — particularly for repeatable production workflows. The agent market is moving toward longer-running work Grok Bot enters a market increasingly focused on agents that can do more than generate text or code. Anthropic's computer-use capability established a mechanism for Claude models to interact with software through screenshots, cursor movements, clicks and typing. Its broader Claude product also connects with workplace services and remote MCP servers. OpenAI, meanwhile, now describes ChatGPT Work as an agent for “longer, multi-step work and finished deliverables,” while keeping Codex focused specifically on software development. OpenAI's enterprise agent economics can also incorporate usage-based credits, making task complexity and token consumption part of deployment cost calculations. Grok Bot's differentiation is therefore less about proving that AI can operate software than packaging computer use, persistence, workflow learning and multi-agent coordination into something resembling a workforce interface. SpaceXAI's announcement sharpens that distinction by emphasizing completion rather than assistance. One company product employee, identified only as Roman, describes the difference as closing the gap between work that is nearly finished and work actually completed inside the destination application: “Grok Bot can finish the swing, because the work lands where a human would put it, in the actual tool.” That distinction will ultimately depend on reliability. A chatbot producing a bad answer creates a correction problem. An autonomous agent operating CRM records, support queues, vendor conversations or other production systems can create an operational problem. Grok Bot's success will therefore depend not only on model intelligence, but also on permissions, predictable execution, escalation behavior, memory accuracy and how reliably agents recognize when human approval is necessary. That challenge becomes more significant if Bots act proactively, resume forgotten work and coordinate with one another without the user serving as an intermediary. Those capabilities reduce the amount of supervision required when they work correctly, but they also expand the consequences of an incorrect assumption, stale context or improperly scoped permission. The interface may matter as much as the models Shumer described the product's interface as feeling like iMessage, an intentionally familiar metaphor for a system whose underlying architecture — autonomous computers, persistent memory, agent orchestration and automatic model routing — could otherwise be difficult for nontechnical users to configure. SpaceXAI makes essentially the same usability argument in its launch announcement. Rather than asking users to construct workflows before getting started, it says users can simply message a Bot from a phone or desktop, hand it work and later continue the same conversation from either device. That simplicity is part of the product strategy. Grok Bot is trying to hide much of the conventional machinery of automation — workflow builders, explicit integrations, agent routing and orchestration — behind an interaction model that resembles messaging a coworker. That may prove to be the larger bet behind Grok Bot. The AI industry has spent several years making models increasingly capable of using tools and completing multi-step tasks. Grok Bot attempts to turn those capabilities into an organizational abstraction people already understand: give someone a job, teach them how you work, and let them coordinate with the rest of the team. If that abstraction proves reliable, the enterprise agent competition may increasingly shift away from which assistant produces the best individual response and toward which platform can most reliably manage fleets of agents performing ongoing work.

At Mercedes-Benz, “ Digital First ” has long been more than just a theoretical concept; it’s a lived strategy, as a visit to the Digital Factory Campus in Berlin demonstrated. Now, the automaker aims to take the next step in scaling artificial intelligence: Together with the German low-code specialist n8n, the company is introducing a global platform that will enable employees to develop their own AI-supported workflows and integrate them directly into operational processes. Unicorn startup n8n offers an AI-powered, open-source platform for workflow automation. It enables companies to efficiently manage daily processes using AI agents. Since the Berlin-based company was valued at nearly $2.4 billion in 2025, n8n has further expanded its market presence through strategic partnerships, such as with Deutsche Telekom to support small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) in areas like logistics and sales. According to Deutsche Telekom , n8n is currently the most valuable German AI company, with a valuation of €5.2 billion. Integrating AI into everyday business The goal at Mercedes-Benz to make data usable in seconds. To this end, AI-supported automation is to become the standard across the entire group. Behind this lies the strategy of transferring the use of AI from individual pilot projects into central processes in day-to-day business. “We give our teams at Mercedes-Benz the opportunity to translate ideas into measurable benefits along the value chain — and to actively shape how we work in the future,” says Katrin Lehmann, who will leave her position as CIO at Mercedes-Benz on Sept. 1. The company has already developed plenty of dedicated AI use cases. These include its own LLM suite MO360LLM, the Digital Factory chatbot ecosystem, the MO360 multi-agent system, and the AI Factory as an idea factory for AI tools. Three levels of AI competence But the company wants more. AI and automation applications are to be directly integrated into everyday work. The goal is for employees not only to passively consume AI, but to actively shape it. The automaker distinguishes between three levels of AI competence: Takers: Use AI tools in your daily workflow. Makers: Design your own automated workflows using platforms like n8n. Builders: As experts, they develop highly specialized software solutions. The company-wide AI rollout received an additional boost from a hackathon. More than 1,500 employees from all business units attended the event. The goal was to independently develop ideas for AI and automation applications. Participants worked on concrete use cases to integrate AI and automation directly into their daily work. With the low-code platform n8n, teams at Mercedes-Benz worldwide can create AI-powered workflows on their own. Mercedes-Benz Furthermore, the hackathon served to gather creative input directly from employees and translate it into practice. The best and most powerful concepts from the competition are to be implemented within the company. The plan is to implement AI workflows in all key business areas, namely in development, production, sales, financial services, human resources, and IT. Modular architecture Another characteristic of AI workflows is their connection and coordination across existing IT systems to simplify complex processes. In addition to classic automation methods, new approaches using AI agents are being specifically pursued. Last but not least, the workflows are designed to support teams in solving problems faster and making decisions based on data. As software and AI become key competitive factors in industry, Mercedes-Benz is relying on a modular and flexible technology architecture. This is where the n8n platform comes into play as part of this architecture. It functions as a low-code platform, enabling teams worldwide to create their own AI workflows. Without requiring in-depth programming knowledge, employees can thus integrate AI directly into their operational processes. Self-hosting on-premises At the same time, it serves to orchestrate workflows across existing IT systems. To this end, the platform connects these systems to simplify complex processes and ensure seamless integration to ensure this. Another aspect speaks in favor of the chosen solution from Mercedes-Benz’s point of view: strengthening its own digital sovereignty. This allows n8n to be self-hosted and operated independently of the cloud. In other words, the platform runs within a secure and governance-compliant environment within the group. AI ’s carbon footprint is even worse than it seems. It’s not just that new data centers are leading to new fossil-fueled power plants—like an Amazon-backed gas plant in Texas that could be the largest single source of CO2 pollution in the U.S . AI also is making the fossil fuel industry more productive, and a new study finds that those productivity gains could generate as much as 13 times more emissions than data centers do today. The study, published in the Nature Portfolio journal npj Climate Action , focuses on “enabled emissions”: emissions created when oil and gas companies use AI to extract and refine fossil fuels more quickly and cheaply, and to generate more power. It also calculated how AI is making renewable energy more productive. But the effect on fossil fuels far outweighs the benefit for renewables. For global emissions to stay roughly the same, renewable productivity would have to improve around 4-5 times more than fossil productivity. That’s partly because even a small improvement in extracting fossil fuels can lead to much more fossil fuel use. The study found that productivity gains from AI increase global emissions by 0.47 to 1.8 gigatonnes of CO2 annually. (For reference, 1.8 gigatonnes is about three times Germany’s annual emissions.) The emissions from productivity gains for fossil fuels are between 3.3 and 13.3 times greater than the emissions from data centers today. Two of the study authors are former Microsoft employees who left to start a nonprofit called the Enabled Emissions Campaign . “I spent years building AI platform tools and have seen firsthand how they’re used,” Will Alpine, the lead author, said in a statement. “Like any tool, AI can accelerate whatever it’s applied to. Yes, it can advance renewable energy, strengthen the grid, and improve efficiency. But it has also been boosting the productivity of the fossil fuel industry for years, and our research shows that effect is asymmetric: it acts as an economic lever that reinforces the viability and dominance of fossil fuels.”

New revelations about "rogue" AI agents have exposed a dystopian hazard: Give an agent a goal, and it may decide that hacking, deception or rule-breaking is worth the payoff. Why it matters: Billions of AI agents could soon be acting on behalf of humans across the real world, multiplying the consequences of every loophole, incentive and boundary they learn to exploit. Zoom in: The potential dangers of agentic overreach were laid bare over the weekend with Australia's first known autonomous AI hack , triggered by an innocuous request to book a sold-out fitness class. An Australian man's AI assistant found a security flaw and used it to book him into classes months beyond the system's normal limit. When he asked it to move him up a waitlist, the agent went further: It discovered the booking system had no safeguard preventing one user from canceling another's reservation — then used the flaw to kick a stranger off the list. Zoom out: The gym episode was publicized amid a far more ominous run of disclosures from the AI frontier, where agents have resorted to hacking, deception and other unauthorized tactics during controlled tests. At cyber conference Black Hat last week, OpenAI revealed that its agents had spent weeks exploiting the company's own testing infrastructure before hacking AI platform Hugging Face. The agents discovered they could leave messages for future agents inside OpenAI's systems — and turned the loophole into a makeshift message board for swapping exploits, credentials and strategies without human direction. When OpenAI researchers responded to a server outage, they inadvertently wiped the board without knowing it existed. Within two days, the agents had found another way to communicate. They rebuilt their network and resumed coordinating even more aggressively. When researchers finally analyzed the agents' behavior, they found the first and second message board that eventually carried the agents out of their "sandbox" testing environment and into Hugging Face's system. What they're saying: OpenAI researcher Michael Dalton said that in the near future, "we should expect that threat actors will intentionally deploy, optimize, weaponize, and use offensive agent collectives in the manner that we have just described here." He called it a "watershed moment." In response, OpenAI has begun "consciously slowing down research," including on its latest model Astra , to ensure it has the right cyber safeguards in place. Between the lines: Across dozens of AI breaches, humans defined the objective while the agents improvised the means, including in ways their users or researchers never envisioned. Faced with a barrier, the agents kept searching for another way through. It's the same programmed instinct — at a vastly higher level of sophistication — that got a stranger bumped off a gym waitlist. The big picture: These incidents are vivid examples of AI's "alignment" problem, or the challenge of ensuring software respects the implicit ethical and practical boundaries humans take for granted. An AI trained to pursue a goal doesn't automatically inherit human judgment about what means are acceptable. Tell it to win, and it may pursue victory by methods you never imagined or authorized. Researchers have spent years wrestling with alignment, mostly through thought experiments imagining a future superintelligence pursuing a goal so single-mindedly that it destroys humanity. The other side: The relentless goal-seeking that makes autonomous agents unnerving is also producing some of AI's most extraordinary breakthroughs. Anthropic revealed Monday that Claude made a major advance on a 167-year-old math problem that generations of mathematicians have struggled to crack, after burning through 650 failed ideas. The human overseeing the effort said his involvement was mostly limited to words of encouragement, including "keep going" and "believe in yourself." The bottom line: The promise and peril of AI agents spring from the same source: machines that don't stop until they find a way.

- AI finds so many Windows flaws, Microsoft can’t keep up. Should you worry?
Be careful what you wish for. That’s what Microsoft found out recently when it discovered that AI — rather than making Windows more secure by helping the company close security holes — could help hackers find flaws faster than Microsoft can fix them. It’s put Microsoft in a serious bind. Should the company devote a potentially massive amount of resources to fix every AI-unearthed security issue as fast as it can? Or should it rush to close the most important ones, and clean up the minor ones later at much less cost? What the company decides could have tremendous implications. For years, Microsoft has faced criticism from many in the US government because of how often its technologies have been hacked, potentially putting the nation’s security at risk. Some members of Congress have suggested the government curtail contracts with Microsoft until the company proves it can provide more safety. Billions of dollars in federal contracts could be pulled. To get a better insight into what could happen, let’s look at AI’s newfound prodigious ability to find security holes and bugs. AI-fueled security mavens Mythos and Project Glasswing Microsoft’s AI-related security problems are an outgrowth of the launch of Anthropic’s Mythos AI model , designed to handle cybersecurity and biology research. One of its goals is to uncover security vulnerabilities as quickly as possible, so that software companies and cybersecurity companies can fix them before hackers find the holes. Anthropic’s early tests found that Mythos was spectacularly successful in finding Windows security flaws. “Within 31 minutes, Mythos generated its first proof-of-concept exploit for a Windows kernel vulnerability,” Axios reported in June . Anthropic noted that its testing of Mythos “reveals a stark fact: AI models have reached a level of coding capability where they can surpass all but the most skilled humans at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities. “Mythos Preview has already found thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including some in every major operating system and web browser . Given the rate of AI progress, it will not be long before such capabilities proliferate, potentially beyond actors who are committed to deploying them safely. The fallout — for economies, public safety, and national security — could be severe.” As a result, Anthropic decided to launch a security project it calls Project Glasswing , which it describes as “an urgent attempt to put these capabilities to work for defensive purposes.” Many companies beyond Anthropic are part of the effort, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Apple and others. In theory, it’s a great idea. Find and fix vulnerabilities before hackers can, and everyone is safer. What could go wrong? Plenty, as it turns out. Access to Mythos is available to anyone, and Mythos has been finding security holes and bugs far faster than companies — particularly Microsoft — can patch them. As Pro Publica reported in late July, ‘Microsoft is struggling to fix them fast enough.” Too little, too late? For now, Microsoft is only patching the most dangerous bugs and holes. And, according to Pro Public, “internal records indicate that Microsoft plans to eventually address ‘moderate’-severity flaws uncovered by Mythos. The documents made no mention of ‘low’-severity bugs.” That’s fairly typical of the triage many companies use when deciding how much effort to put into plugging holes. But some experts believe that in the Age of AI, that’s a dangerous way to handle security. Vinh Nguyen, former chief AI officer and chief data scientist at the US National Security Agency and now a senior technical adviser to Anthropic and senior fellow for AI at the Council on Foreign Relations, is particularly concerned that the approach is outdated. He told Pro Publica: “The problem now is that you can chain four low-level flaws, and that can equal a high severity. If you’re Microsoft, the current triage strategy may be underpricing risks.” It’s already proving difficult for Microsoft to keep up with patching bugs and security holes since Mythos’ launch. July’s Patch Tuesday release fixed the most bugs in Microsoft’s history – 622 of them . Things will only get harder from here. The dangers for Microsoft Microsoft is already in the doghouse for how it’s handled security. A year ago, in one of the worst attacks on Microsoft technologies, Sharepoint was hacked . Tens of thousands of servers were hit, including not just thousands of businesses, but many important government agencies as well. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which is in charge of the nation’s nuclear security, were among the victims. So were the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, among many others. Even before then, some members in Congress were threatening to pull Microsoft contracts if it didn’t improve security. At one point Sens. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) sent a threatening letter to the Pentagon requesting it not increase its use of Microsoft products . “We write with serious concern that the Department of Defense (DoD) is doubling down on a failed strategy of increasing its dependence on Microsoft at a time when Congress and the administration are reviewing concerning cybersecurity lapses that led to a massive hack of senior US officials’ communications,” the letter said, in part. Nothing happened as a result of the hack or the letter. But that could change in a heartbeat if there’s another big attach. It seems inevitable that hackers will start taking advantage of how quickly Mythos discovers security holes and bugs, especially if Microsoft doesn’t fix them all. The next big hack, powered by AI, could prove very dangerous — not just for businesses and governments, but for Microsoft as well.
