Objective: To examine associations between volume and intensity of leisure time physical activity (LTPA) and fracture risk during midlife and determine whether adherence to World Health Organisation (WHO) physical activity recommendations was associated with fracture risk. Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of UK Biobank participants aged 40 to 65 years using self-reported physical activity and fracture data. LTPA volume (LTPAV) was derived from walking, moderate and vigorous activity. Participants were categorised into LTPAV quintiles and by adherence to WHO physical activity recommendations. Multivariable logistic regression examined associations with self-reported fracture within the previous five years, with sex stratified analyses. Results: Among 322,749 participants, 53% were female with a mean age of 47 years. Fracture risk increased with higher LTPAV, although the association was non-linear and varied by age and sex. The strongest associations were in the highest quintile among men and women aged 40 to 49 years (OR 1.81, 95% CI 1.64 to 1.99 and OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.28 to 1.58 respectively). In mutually adjusted models, vigorous activity demonstrated the strongest independent association with fracture risk. Meeting WHO physical activity recommendations, without exceeding them, was not associated with increased fracture risk. Conclusions: Higher fracture risk was observed in individuals undertaking higher volumes of leisure-time physical activity, with the association largely driven by vigorous-intensity activity. The association was strongest in adults aged 40 to 49 years and in men. Physical activity consistent with current WHO recommendations was not associated with increased fracture risk, supporting continued promotion of physical activity during midlife.

Objective: To identify common photon-counting CT (PCCT) virtual monochromatic imaging (VMI) settings for accurate hepatic fat fraction (FF) quantification across different body sizes, including large body habitus. Methods: Six non-iodinated fat lesions (FF 5%-40%) were embedded in anthropomorphic liver phantoms representing medium-sized (25x32.5 cm^2) and large (31x39 cm^2) abdomens. Phantoms were scanned on a PCCT system (NAEOTOM Alpha) at 120 and 140 kV. CT numbers were measured in VMIs at 40-190 keV in 1-keV increments. Linear regression between the ground-truth FF and measured Hounsfield units (HU) was used to estimate FF. Common optimal VMI settings yielding the minimum relative root-mean-square error (rRMSE) in both phantoms were identified. Results: A single VMI setting of 70 keV at 140 kV demonstrated the best overall performance across body sizes, with FF (%) = -0.689HU + 36.51 (R^2 > 0.996), achieving rRMSE [≤]3.4% and absolute RMSE [≤]0.7% in both phantoms. Robust performance (rRMSE [≤] 5%) was consistently maintained across 69-71 keV using identical calibration parameters for both phantoms. These results represented a substantial improvement over previously reported dual-energy CT (DECT) performance, while enabling accurate quantification on PCCT at radiation doses approximately 40% lower than those used in prior DECT protocols. Conclusion: PCCT enables accurate and robust hepatic fat fraction quantification independent of body size. A single protocol at 140 kV with VMIs of 69-71 keV consistently achieved low quantification errors, demonstrating strong potential for opportunistic liver fat assessment using PCCT, especially in obese patients.

We introduce SymPerturb, a virtual-perturbation framework that distinguishes four primitive perturbation operators - virtual knockout, virtual knockdown, edge-level communication blocking and node-centred communication blocking - from three analytic procedures - virtual dosage perturbation, combination perturbation and sequence optimisation. The reference Gaussian implementation is embedded in a general location-scale map with symptom-specific target anchors, making explicit that zero anchoring and linked mean-variance attenuation are modelling choices. Seven utility outcomes quantify downstream efficacy, dose efficiency, breadth, cross-module reach, communication blocking, combination value and responsiveness; robustness is reported separately as an uncertainty diagnostic. Their direction-aligned, within-candidate-set weighted mean defines the virtual perturbation priority score (VPPS), which is a relative ranking rather than a transportable clinical utility score. In a known 22-node, four-module generating network, analytical efficacy agreed with 100,000-draw Monte Carlo estimates within 0.0024 standard deviations. The reported finite-sample VPPS results were generated with the original eight-component exploratory score and therefore require regeneration under the revised seven-utility-dimension definition. These simulations provide internal computational verification under model compatibility, not causal or external validation. SymPerturb is intended to generate auditable target hypotheses for longitudinal and experimental testing.

LinkedIn is pushing back against lengthy, low-quality posts generated with artificial intelligence , also known as “AI slop,” that users have become accustomed to seeing in their feeds. The career-building and social networking site just added a button that allows users to easily report such content for review. Now, when LinkedIn users scroll through their feed and spot a post they suspect is AI-generated, they can tap the three-dot menu next to it and select the “Seems like AI slop” option. When users click the button, the post will be hidden and a message will appear that reads: “Thanks for letting us know. Your feedback helps improve the feed.” After 404 Media first reported the innovation, LinkedIn’s chief product officer, Hari Srinivasan, posted an explanation on Thursday about why it’s important for the site to combat AI slop. Srinivasan wrote that LinkedIn is a place “with real people” who share their real perspectives, ideas, and expertise,” and that the new button will make it easier than ever to flag posts that seem “inauthentic” or rely on “heavy use of AI.” “We are ramping up the ability for members to tell us if they believe a post or comment seems like AI slop,” he wrote. “Slop is hard to define and the definition changes; this lets us tune our models and make better feeds.” Srinivasan said that the company is also expanding its internal efforts to weed out AI-generated content, improving its automation defenses, and even removing the site’s “enhance your post” option that utilizes AI. On a popular post about the change, one top comment reads: “Finally, so no more motivational BS AI-generated slops. Good job.” Still, others questioned what the site’s true motives were, as some comments not-so-subtly suggested that LinkedIn is merely hoping to better train its AI to be more humanlike. “Let’s be real, it’s a way to get training data on what people spot as AI-generated to train models to be less detectable,” one user griped. Motivation aside, the site is certainly not the first to announce it would make new efforts to combat AI slop. In a July 20 video announcement , YouTube clarified its policies on AI-generated creator content, outlining three kinds that aren’t eligible for monetization on the site: repetitive content, off-putting or distressing content, and representations of people made with AI. “AI can actually allow people to make a lot of videos,” YouTube’s trust and safety chief, Matt Halprin, explained in the video. “But that exact same new tool can allow you to make lots of videos really quickly that are very similar. They’re very generic and don’t really have a narrative arc, and don’t really show your creativity.” Halprin added: “So the same technology really enables great stuff, but it also enables stuff that’s kind of content farming. And that’s the stuff that we don’t want to have in YPP [the YouTube Partner Program].” Last year Pinterest added an “ AI tuner ,” which allows users to easily adjust how much AI-generated content they’ll see in their feeds. Around the same time, TikTok introduced a similar slider to give users more control.
