The global mature-node supply–demand landscape is undergoing a structural shift, according to TrendForce’s latest foundry industry research. Not only have 8-inch capacity utilization and pricing stabilized and begun to rebound, but 12-inch mature-node processes are also poised to benefit from TSMC’s planned capacity cuts. This could potentially trigger order reallocation. Furthermore, Taiwanese foundries are shifting 90 nm-and-above high-voltage capacity toward power-related applications, indirectly benefiting Chinese suppliers and gradually fueling upward pricing momentum. Leading foundries such as TSMC and Samsung Foundry have been reducing 8-inch capacity since the second half of 2025. However, sustained demand growth for AI servers, general-purpose servers, and edge AI applications, particularly in power management and power devices, has driven the average 8-inch utilization rate among the top 10 global foundries to nearly 90% in 2026—up significantly from around 80% in 2025. Too many organisations treat sovereignty and governance as a brake on innovation, when these approaches actually drive growth and business success. New research, from Uvance Wayfinders, consulting by Fujitsu, reveals that so-called sovereignty leaders consistently outperform their peers on collaboration, innovation, trust and growth. Key findings indicate that organizations treating data and AI sovereignty as a strategic capability are: 10% more likely to report success in the way they collaborate effectively with partners 19% more likely to be performing well in developing new AI-enabled products and services 16% more likely to agree that they’re succeeding in maintaining customer trust 11% more likely to report meeting their financial goals (57% compared to just 46% of sovereignty and data maturity laggards). These organisations see sovereignty and privacy by design as an engine for business success. This reflects a shift towards what Uvance Wayfinders defines as “sovereignty-by-desi

From August 2026, an EU-wide AI regulation will come into force requiring the labeling of AI-generated content. However, a research team from the University of Bayreuth and Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland, has found that users of AI systems can no longer reliably recall after just one week whether content was generated by AI or not. The coffee might be poured by a human hand, but behind the counter, something far less traditional is calling the shots at an experimental café in Stockholm. San Francisco-based startup Andon Labs has put an artificial intelligence agent nicknamed “Mona” in charge at the eponymous Andon Café in the Swedish capital. While human baristas still brew the coffee and serve the orders, the AI agent—powered by Google’s Gemini—oversees almost every other aspect of the business, from hiring staff to managing inventory. It is not clear how long the experiment will last, but the AI agent appears to be struggling to turn a profit in Stockholm’s competitive coffee trade. The café has made more than $5,700 in sales since it opened in mid-April, but less than $5,000 remains from its original budget of $21,000-plus. Much of the cash was spent on onetime setup costs, and the hope is that it eventually levels out and makes money. Many café patrons have found it amusing to visit a business that’s run by A

The trial has exposed even more details about OpenAI’s fractious corporate past than previously documented OpenAI, despite its name, is usually extremely secretive about its operations. It promotes a carefully crafted image to the world. Over the course of Elon Musk’s case against the startup and its CEO Sam Altman, however, the artificial intelligence firm has been forced to publicly contend with some of the messiest parts of its rise to power in public. The Musk v OpenAI trial , which on Monday entered its third week, has featured a who’s who of Silicon Valley testifying about OpenAI’s past and its CEO’s contentious leadership. Musk’s attorneys have used former executives, private text messages, diary entries and internal email exchanges to portray Altman as untrustworthy.
